Cyber Patriot Team Description
CyberPatriot is a National Youth Cyber Education Program sponsored largely by the Air Force and several large corporations. At the heart of the program is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. High school and middle school students are put into the position of an IT professional tasked with managing the network of a small company. In each round, the teams are given a set of virtual images running various operating systems, each with unique vulnerabilities that teams are tasked to find and fix. Teams compete locally within their state and region, and the top teams in the nation are given an all-expenses paid trip to the national finals in Baltimore, MD.
Team members can receive a competitor T-shirt, a ribbon, a pin, an aiguillette, and/or a medallion at the end of each season. Due to the length of competitions, dinner is more than often provided by the Coronado NJROTC unit. Occasional trips to training events are also possible, as well as team bonding events (organized by the Team Commander), like bowling on the Coronado Naval Base.
